What is the correlation Between the Body, Soul, and the Human Spirit?

This lesson will discuss the correlations between the body, soul, and the human spirit. There are two – one for the believer and one for the unbeliever. Scriptures show that all three are present.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 – May the God of peace Himself sanctify you wholly; and may your SPIRIT and SOUL and BODY be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (NASB)
Hebrews 4:12 – For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of the SOUL and the SPIRIT, of JOINTS and MARROW, and discerning of the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (NASB)
At birth, every person on planet Earth starts out with the following:
- A PHYSICAL BODY – Obviously! This one doesn’t really need explaining, clearly every individual has a physical form.
- A SOUL – Not as obvious! In fact, some people don’t even believe human beings have souls. For example, so and so XXX. However, the soul is multi-faceted, which we will discuss later. It is expressed through our personalities. Every single person on planet Earth has a personality, although no two are alike.
- A DEAD HUMAN SPIRIT – Also not as obvious! The human spirit is how mankind communicates with God the Father. When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, communication was cut off. Verse The dead human spirit gets turned on (for lack of a better phrase) at salvation, which we will discuss later.
